Learning the best teaching techniques takes time and experience, but most CFIs teach for only a couple of years. Very little expertise gets shared.
Change the culture from career vs. time builders and complaints about bad CFIs to making help everyone teach better and make students safer!
If you've been teaching for 4 weeks or 40 years and you, share one short tip or story to help students learn more, we can make every instructor better and every student safer.
Yes, the program is always going to be 100% free to any ground, flight, or student instructor that wants to be better.
The entire project is privately funded.
There are many great resources for students to use to become instructors and for CFIs to improve, including online courses, books, professional groups, and more. Unfortunately, a large population of CFIs and pilots also complain about how bad some instructors are, especially the “time builders” who don’t care about teaching but only getting an airline job.
I don’t believe that any CFI, including “time builders,” honestly don’t care if their student gets hurt or doesn’t learn well. The problem with all flight instructors is the “leaky bucket” teaching theory. Even the most dedicated CFIs retain only part of what they are taught, and they then pass down only a small piece of that to the next generation. We must accept that most instructors move on to another career within four years, and the best techniques and tips are constantly getting lost.
What new and experienced instructors are missing most is the “aha” moments from others. The stories of how you realized a better way to teach a maneuver or concept or a short tip you wish you had known when you were a new instructor. These are not just from instructors with 40 years of experience. One of the best stories I received for this program was from someone still training to be a CFI!
This program is unique and hopefully a game changer that changes the entire CFI culture. Instead of dividing the career against the time builders or complaining about the bad CFIs, we can work together to raise every one. We need to reach out to every training, new and experienced CFI to learn from and share the things that help students the most. Tips not from one CFI but from hundreds!
The book and online course will always be free for any ground, flight, or student instructor. In addition to the generous support of Avemco Insurance, I am personally pledging $50,000 to print books, host and develop online courses, and actively promote the program nationwide. If you''d like to help us succeed, the best thing you can do is to join the team of people who contribute tips, stories antell spread the word
So what does this program need most to succeed? You! We need your stories and pro tips to share. We also need you to share and promote this idea to every instructor. If the program is only from one or two points of view, it will never make the significant change we need. By contributing even one story or pro tip, you will receive credit as a contributing author and, if you wish, an included link to your email or website promoting your services. Most importantly, you will know that you made a difference by contributing and sharing this.
